Seasonal Switch - Trusted Transitional Layers

At Uncommon Man, we believe the tangible benefits of good layering can see you through, so long as you think carefully about the mix of textures you’re putting together. Shirting is generally the best place to start (with a fine thermal under-layer or vest if needed) and we’d suggest our gently pressed, Button Down Oxford in 100% cotton for year-round appeal.

Pants are the next port of call, with the flat-fronted, straight legged Eames Trouser. Inspired by military service chinos from WWII, these 100% cotton, hand-finished bestsellers are equal parts hardy and handsome. If warmth is an issue, opt for the single pleat front, 100% wool Ambrosi Trouser in trusty Charcoal as an alternative. Made by master craftsmen in Naples, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more comfortable, classic choice.

With the lower quadrant covered, knits are needed – and who can argue with the reliable simplicity of a soft wool V-neck? Ours are made in Scotland from 100% lambswool and cut with enough wiggle room for a shirt underneath. To turn the luxe up a notch, consider instead, the wool and cashmere round-neck. Cut for a relaxed, laid-back look, this one is perfect teamed with a simple tee-shirt.

Finally, the tailored top layer. Surface appeal comes in the form of tradition, thanks to the Marling & Evans cloth we’ve selected for our everyday sports jacket styles. Fabric nerds will know already, that these English experts have been busy weaving in Yorkshire since 1782. Europe’s elite have been wearing suits created from their luxurious, durable materials for centuries, so it’s safe to say they know a thing or two about the importance of good quality. The single-breasted wool/linen Herringbone jacket with tonal chocolate-colored buttons sits effortlessly with almost all shades for a year-round staple.

If you fancy upping the contrast a touch, perhaps the blue and cream Glen check of the Lee Jacket, with natural fit shoulder, double vents and patch pockets is a better option. Cut for the day-to-day, made to last, everything we do here at Uncommon Man serves a purpose. So, this spring don’t go reaching for the same old separates, think back to Mark Twain and polish your appearance instead.
