THE DIGEST: Bill Evans Remebered

Bill Evans: Remembered

“Just go with truth and beauty, and forget the rest.”

Bill’s music permeates time because of this maxim. He disrupted the ruckus of Hard Bob with something that caught the attention of the jazz world - elegance. Bill Evans’ massive contribution to music is a long consistent note of truth and beauty. This week is an exploration into some of his greatest work and darkest tragedies, while celebrating his effortless style.

'BILL EVANS: TIME REMEMBERED' (2015)

The life and contribution of Bill Evans told through close family, friends, and jazz giants. His story speaks to the heights of beauty and the depths of tragedy. Time Remembered captures him in a succinct, honest, and excellent way.

'THE TRIO LIVE ON JAZZ 625' (1965)

March 19th, 1965, BBC Studios in London. The Trio played two sets on Jazz 625, an iconic show hosted by Humphrey Lyttelton. Over an hour of effortless playing and great commentary. It's amazing to see how much the Trio communicates without saying a single word.

'THE VILLAGE VANGUARD SESSIONS' (1961)

After his time playing with Miles, he trekked out on his own as a band leader, forming The Bill Evans Trio. With Scott LaFaro (bassist) and Paul Motian (drummer), the original lineup played one of the greatest jazz recordings of all time. Remastered and released on 3 disks. Enjoy.

'LIVE AT THE MOLDE JAZZ FESTIVAL' (1980)

Two months before Evans' death, the Trio played an amazing set at Moldejazz in 1980. Bill is older, the shirt collars are wider, and the footage is saturated jazz bliss. Stick around at the end for an interview with Bill.

'THE COPENHAGEN REHEARSAL TAPE' (1966)

Witness the intimacy of the Trio during a rehearsal for a set in Copenhagen. It's a rare treat to have a peak at how masters prepare. But be quiet, they might hear you.
