The Digest: HQ TRANSMISSION

HQ TRANSMISSION:

With summer ablaze and travel at hand, we take some time to catch up with HQ. Here's a transmission from UM to keep this slow summer rolling. Shoe wisdom from Caleb, shop tunes from Travis, an Amalfi momento from Kyle, and more. Enjoy.

SHOE GAZING WITH CALEB MALINOWSKI

Our Resident Sultan of Swag shares a comprehensive guide to shine. As a finalist of the World Championship in Shoe Shining, Caleb knows a thing about making your shoes beam, so take notes.

'BEAT THE DEVIL' (1953) - JOHN HUSTON

With Kyle enjoying a slow pace in the Amalfi coast, we hit the archives to feature a film set there. We bring you a lesser-celebrated quirky John Huston film, co-written by Truman Capote, starring Bogart, Peter Lorre, Jennifer Jones, and Gina Lollobrigida. The stunner in this film is the scenic hilltop town of Ravello.

'IOWA DREAM' (2019) - ARTHUR RUSSELL

It's been a thoughtful week for Travis at HQ, accompanied by this posthumus album from Arthur Russell. Born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Russell has permeated genres his whole career, spanning everything from avante garde, disco, and folk. 'Iowa Dream' is a simple, elegant, and true album that gets at the core of what we enjoy.

SERVIN' UP THE TENNIS SWEATER

Aaah, the tennis sweater - when sporting was elegant. Luckily this iconic piece hits hard off the court. Head over to The American Traditional to hear my take on Uncommon Man's Tennis Sweater.

IRVING PENN

Celebrated as one of fashion's greatest photographers, Irving Penn was so much more. He expanded the idea of what an artist can do with a camera. Explore his prolific work in portraits, still life, travel, and more.

'MANK' (2020) - DAVID FINCHER

Fincher always delivers on the details and this is no exception. Mank takes us through screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz's experience penning Orson Welles' 'Citizen Kane', and his crusade to criticize Hollywood's elite during the trials of the Great Depression. The period, costumes, and acting are absolutely stellar.
